Remember when I suggested a day where people could get together and have some fun? Well, I’d like to set a date. Consider it tentative because I haven’t found a place for it yet. Mark Saturday, June 22nd in you calendar. I give a link at the bottom of this post so you can read more about the event.
Even though I can’t tell you exactly where it will take place (other than Northern Virginia on private property), here’s what I’m thinking. For one, it will be as informal as possible. People just show up and leave when they wish. Second, bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax on and set them up wherever you prefer. For the really adventurous, bring your corn hole, horseshoes, beer pong, and other assorted fun. Finally, aside from, perhaps, a jar there will be no fundraising. After all, it’s for you to kick back and relax! It should cost you nothing… although not bringing a six-pack of beer or a couple of bottles of wine for the community bar is frowned upon. We are not above outright ridicule, peer pressure, and name calling.
I’ll take care of the pig roast. You bring your own side dishes. It’s that easy!
Now, did you notice it will be held — if possible — on private property (like a farm or field). By doing it this way it gets us around a whole host of county issues (event licensing, permits, ABC licensing, inspections, food serving/sanitation certificates, and so on). It also is a lot cheaper, and if it rains or turns out to be a big bore-fest we can all just pack-up and go home (you might need to take your trash with you). This, in turn, means it will be on private party. Sorry Austin Vantrease and Jonathan May, you’re not invited. That goes for your attorneys, family, and friends too!
So, am I thinking about this right? Minimal effort, maximum relaxation.
Here’s the link I told you about at the beginning of this post:

Hi Ken, thank you for letting us know the date of our Team Diviney get together so we can plan ahead. It’s going to take a very large yard, I think, to accomodate everyone who might like to come. It would be helpful if we could get a general idea of how many folks are planning on attending. Just counting in my head, I’ve already come up with about 30 people — but I have a feeling it’ll be double that (if not more!!) I really like your approach — stress free fun in the sun. I know this isn’t a fundraiser, but I like Carla’s 50-50 raffle idea. Woohooo I can’t wait!!
Hoping things are going smoothly this week for you and your family. Please give Ryan a big hug for me! Love, hugs, prayers ongoing … Paula

I guess I can’t run my 50-50 raffle. Bummer!!!! Well, I’ll bring my tickets anyway, and if you change your mind, we can do it. 🙂
Meant to comment on yesterday’s post but have been slammed with work and haven’t had the opportunity. Also working on Sue’s letter for Kelly’s show. My niece Elizabeth wrote a letter already and I’m sending it in with mine!
Glad to see everything fell into place at the conference….I had no doubt you would wow ’em, Ken. This is big….and for that I am so thankful!
Love,
carla

Ken, this sounds like a good time will be had by all! Jars? Those big plastic jsrs are great for this. I think I have a couple of these from Costco that came with pretzels and I will bring them along with our Luau Baked Beans. How about some Hawaiian CDs? Gals, be practicing your hula, but please don’t throw your backs out! A little Country with some line dancing might be in order out on the farm. Should we put Kari in charge of music and dancing? Betcha this will be a hoot’n, holler’n good time! Where do we sign up?
