Ryan in ICU. Illness Identified.

February 28, 2014 by Ryan's Rally LLC 131 Comments

Two days ago I wrote that something just didn’t seem right with Ryan. I ended my post with “Let’s see what this day will bring”.

Well, it brought me rushing Ryan to the hospital, where he remains this morning… in the ICU. The short version of what he is enduring is about the most I have time to give this morning. But I want to bring you up-to-date because I know many are worrying about him.

Ryan in ICU after surgeryHe has a bacterial infection in his bloodstream. It seems — at least at this time — that it was caused by a kidney stone that was moving down his urinary tract. Fortunately, I knew something was going on even before this stone began blocking his urine flow. That actually happened yesterday at the hospital and they rushed him off to surgery to open the passageway. This was the first of at least two surgeries that are necessary.

Thank goodness I got ahead of this before becoming acute (and symptomatic, at that). He was in the hospital for a full day when it actually did. That bought enough time to figure out what was going on with him.

Sadly, the kidney stone that blocked his urine is not the largest one he has. Another is still up in his kidney right now, but harmless until it would start moving downstream. There are two additional ones too, but they are much smaller.

So, yesterday he had a stent placed to open the flow but the stone was not removed. It was simply pushed outside the stent. Ryan must recover from his infection before having this stone (and the stent removed). At that time, the surgeon will make an attempt to get the other stones removed.

We are hopeful that he will be transferred from the ICU today back to a typical hospital room. His labs from this morning, just in, are slightly improved. He is moving in the right direction! I would expect he will remain hospitalized for another 48 hours even in the best case scenario.

We are all feeling so helpless during this crisis. Words expressing our deep felt hurt for Ryan, Ken, Sue & Kari just don’t seem to be enough, at least for me. I asked twenty friends today to sign the PETITION. I would like to ask EVERYONE to contact TWENTY friends and ask them to sign the PETITION. Let’s do this for Ryan!

You knew something was wrong. Hope everyone is back home soon. Maybe you can get some sleep while he is in good hands?

Ken, thank you so much for updating us. Yes, we are all worried and praying constantly; everyone is wanting to know how Ryan is doing and how you and Sue are doing. Many people are asking how they can help.

Thank God you recognized something was wrong and took action. It’s very hard to see something like this coming, but because you knew what to look for, you took all the right steps to help Ryan. You are amazing, period, and so is your family.

Sending my love, prayers for healing and comfort, and peace — we are here thinking about you all, supporting each other too because all of us care so much about your family, it hurts us when you all are hurting.

Prayers for strength, wisdom, healing, peace.
    Hugs, Paula
