I wasn’t able to write over the weekend. Turns out, I spent Saturday night at my daughter’s college house. She needed me! Actually, I went to run her cable television, put on a few deadbolt locks, fix an electrical circuit, de-clog the bath tub, and assorted other handyman projects.
So on Saturday morning I awoke early and had Ryan up with me. I ran him through his therapies (albeit a condensed version) and was able to hit the road by late morning. I arrived in Morgantown in the early afternoon and swung by a hardware store to get supplies before meeting up with Kari. It actually worked out perfectly — timing wise, that is — because just as I was walking out of the hardware store she was getting up for the day.
I got through all the projects within a few hours and it was time to make my presence known, in a big way, on her street. It was poppin’ off as all the students were out enjoying a perfect day. Now, I don’t want to get into all the hyjinx, but suffice it to say the call me “K-Pimpin” in Morgantown these days.
No, really, it was the best time I had in a long, long time.
Her street was alive. I brought a Cornhole game that was given to me for my birthday. Judging by the fun everyone was having with it, I think Morgantown is now its permanent home. People were playing it until the sun went down. It was so popular, I didn’t even get the chance to play! In truth, I got more pleasure out of watching others enjoying it. You know what I mean, right? It’s kind of like watching your children open gifts on Christmas morning.
Then there was the swimming pool… in the back of a pick-up truck. It was hilarious. Some of the guys lined the bed of the truck with a plastic tarp and filled it with water. I just smiled as the guys all checked the weight rating and on the tires to make sure they were sufficient for the volume of water. Eventually, they got the idea to drive around campus and downtown, drawing cheers from the onlookers. Kari and I didn’t ride along, because (as Kari says) “it’s always more fun when it’s someone else doing it”.
There are other pictures, but I’ll just wait until the statute of limitations runs out!
I was able to hang on until around eleven that night, but decided going downtown for the nightlife was more than I could tolerate. I don’t want to brag (too much) but everyone was disappointed that I wasn’t joining them. I woke early the next morning and did a few more projects. I left WVU a couple of hours later and arrived back home that afternoon.
Tarsorrhaphy Update:
I took Ryan to the eye surgeon Friday morning. He will need to get the procedure completely redone on his left eye. While he is getting this done he will also get his right eye reinforced. The plan was to do it on Friday. I was ready. Ryan was ready. The doctor was ready. The hospital was not. The operating room was booked solid. We will be taking him in for the procedure this week. If I can find someone to be at our home while he’s getting this done I’ll let you know when it is and will update you throughout the day.

Watching our kids have fun is one of the great rewards of having children. So glad you got to go visit Kari and enjoy the goings on at West Virginia U and Morgantown. Umm, hoping our college kid doesn’t hear about the truck pool. She does have a tarp in her truck, but I think it is for — camping??

Sounds like you had so much fun, Ken!!! These are the moments that help us keep finding joy in life!! Hmmm — I’m wondering — maybe you need to be a college professor, because campus life seems to suit you and you get along exceptionally well with the students. I can hear it now, “Dude, I got Professor Diviney for Medical Ethics Best Practices, yeah!!” “Man you are lucky — I heard he’s tough but has a wicked sense of humor! Don’t try to lie to him though, he’s got esp I think” lol

Kari is very fortunate to have a Dad who can fix just about anything — a lot of folks these days only know how to pay someone to fix stuff. Sounds like Kari has a nice place to live too.
Praying the eye surgery will go smoothly, I feel sad Ryan has to go through it again but I know it’s a necessity. I also hope you can see improvement as a result of the procedure.
Sending hugs & love and prayers all thru the hours

” I don’t want to brag (too much) but everyone was disappointed that I wasn’t joining them.”- that made laugh out loud! You’re too much.
I am so grateful that you had the energy to help Kari (as it appears to make you very happy) and then to be able to spend that time enjoying Kari and her friends or should I say YOUR friends. ha!
I’m sorry that RYAN and each of you have to go through the eye procedure again, but, rest assured that I and many others will be holding each of you up in prayer to help see you through (in more ways than one!)
With love and in prayer,
Keri, MY FRANKIE and Family

I am so happy that you were able to get away for the day and help your daughter get settled into her new apartment. It sounds as if you that was a big lift for your spirits! Hoping for a peaceful week for you and yours!
