Yesterday was a rough one, for sure. I plowed through it. I am doing a bit better today and intend on pulling myself out of this. I know I must act quickly, because the 7th is just around the corner. If I enter the 15-month anniversary weakened, I’ll surely be in trouble.
I hope to get caught up on my rest this weekend. I’ve been dragging since the night the nurse cancelled and Sue was stuck on the G.W. Parkway. The night I spent in Morgantown, in some strange way, made me even more tired. Agh! I can see Sue is worn out too. Her business travel takes a lot out of her. It’s just not the drudgery of the trip, but moreover, being away from Ryan.
So I commit to shedding myself of my sucky attitude. It’s not helpful, I know. As always, I NEVER display this around Ryan. I’ll work to pull Sue up too. It helps me to see her laugh. Does anyone know any kiddie jokes?
A family friend (i.e., someday I’ll have to share how we first we met), delivered binders to the hospital this morning. This was one of the action items from my meeting with the medical team last week. This way they’ll have Ryan’s history. They tell me they will scan these into Ryan’s record. I sure hope this alleviates any hasty decisions in the future.
Hey, it’s a new day! Who knows what it will bring…

Not a joke but a cute true story. My youngest daughter who is now 25 was sitting on my chest as I was lying on the couch one day. She said “Mommy you remind me of a turtle” knowing she had such an interest and love for turtles, I was so pleased. Then she continued “Yea Mommy because your neck is so wrinkled”…..the honesty of a child. Hope this brings a little smile to all of you!

God bless you Ken.

I will definitely ask the kids for some good kids jokes to share with you. They’re 7 and almost 9 and they ask about and pray for Ryan everyday … and we’ve never met you.

Okay Ken, mine all live on the silly joke page so delete them all above 🙂

JOKES FOR SUE!! (prepare yourself!)
How does the gingerbread man make his bed? With cookie sheets.

When is a car not a car? When it turns into a driveway.

And our family’s (esp Annie) all time favorite:
Two muffins were sitting in an oven, and the first looks over to the second, and say, “woah…it’s really hot in here”. The second looks over at the first with a surprised look, and answers, “OH MY GOODNESS, a talking muffin!”
First you have to say it in a muffin voice, then you have to say, if you are Annie, amongst giggles, “did you get it? see one muffin was talking and was surprised the other muffin talked… did you get it? Did you?” Cracks HER up every time she tells it.

There was a mommie, daddy and baby tomato and they were walking around the blcck one day. The kid kept hanging behind and the mom kept having to go back and get him. After a while the dad had just about had it. The kid lagged behind one last time and his dad walked back STEPPED on him smashing him into the sidewalk and said…. “KETCH-UP!”

I swear I was just about to post that same joke. My Morgan used to tell us that when she was younger, and we laughed at her, because she was laghing so hard! Good jokes make the rounds!

Hello Ken, yes, it’s a new day — breathe in the love we send; look in the mirror, there’s a reflection of a uniquely strong person you see; a man who has been shepherding his family through a nightmare, then pulling them up and out of it rather than giving in to the darkness. That’s the power of one extraordinary Dad!! Kick the darkness in the gut and send it away when it comes to call — hang a “no vacancy” sign for it. You are a guide and a mentor for Kari, and a guardian angel for Ryan. You have great wisdom to share. I know you must feel alone — very alone at times. I pray the Lord continues to send people into your life who can comfort and support you, and also Sue, Kari and Ryan. Thank you for what you give to us — a connection with you and your family, insights, truthfulness, and lots of laughter : ) I know none of this even touches the void you feel about what has happened to Ryan — but I hope by the grace of our Lord it expands the boundaries of this world, that you know how many of us are here who sincerely love and care about you, and your beautiful family. Lots of X’s and O’s for you, Ken … and prayers of renewed hope and continued healing for Ryan.

How ’bout we let Ryan tell the story some day, after all he paid for it!

Let’s make it a good day ; ) I hope you get a chance to catch up on your sleep this weekend. I caught a glimpse of Sue taking the dogs out this a.m. – I am glad you guys have her home. I hope to get over this cold soon so i can deliver the patented bear hugs to you both.
XOXOXOXOXOXO

So happy to hear you are feeling better, but I surely understand that you will have those days when it just seems that nothing and no one can lift your spirit. As long as you are sharing those days with us, I won’t worry, but when you stop — well, that’s when we may converge on you at your house! Is Ryan having a Super Bowl party? I think that would be a good thing, but then again it could be bad depending which team he is cheering on and which one wins! LOL Still here.

Great attitude — you’re doing all the right things. We love the way you and Sue take care of each other just as you care for Ryan. Please let us know if there’s anything any of us out here can do to allow either/both of you a little extra time to catch up on some much-needed rest or just do something to re-group emotionally. In the meantime, let’s see if we can get a little giggle out of Sue:
Why was the cookie crying?
Rita says
Give up? Because its mother had been a wafer so long.
(C’mon, I know you’re smiling.)
That riddle is from a book called 500 Hilarious Jokes for Kids, so there’s plenty more where that came from 🙂 (Mandy did stand-up comedy for the Dominion Trail talent shows back in our kids’ elementary school days.)
