We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

Things are Where They Should Be

May 27, 2012 by Ryan's Rally LLC 10 Comments

I’ll just keep my fingers crossed to see if what I write today gets uploaded to the website. The hilly terrain here in Morgantown can make using a WiFi Air Card a bit challenging. Kari’s new college house is on the side of a hill with the southern exposure uphill. This could make the link to the satellite obstructed (if I understand geosynchronous orbit correctly, that is).

We rolled in around two o’clock yesterday afternoon, after stopping by the mega hardware store for some supplies. We got right to work and had everything built, clean and in place around eight o’clock. Granted, there is some serious organizing still needed and I doubt we’ll get it done today because Kari loves her sleep. I’m hoping Sue will come back with her for a day or two and tidy up and put a polish on the place.

Our plans to hit the town last night we’re too much for me. I was tired! A handful of Kari’s friends were in town, so I gladly encouraged her to spend time with them while I slept. Sleep I did, too. With the absence of television and reliable internet service, it was my only choice. I grabbed a blanket and stretch out on the couch. I was out instantly and woke up at eight this morning, stirring only once when Kari and two of her friends arrived back.

Kari’s house is close to where Ryan was attacked. So close, in fact, that I can see the edge of the parking lot where it happened. I walked down to the spot where Ryan took his last thought and sat. That’s a story for another day though.

I miss him so much.

    To the family of Ryan,

My name is James Walch, you have never heard from me but i have followed this incident since the day it happened. I was Ryans next door neighbor on Locust Ave. in Morgantown and got to know Ryan before the incident. We both had bulldogs and they used to play together. Buddha loved Duke, it must have been that bulldog connection. 🙂 Such goofy animals. Anyway, I didnt know Ryan long but I did know him long enough to get the sense that he was a very nice, caring, genuine person. I pray for him often, as does my good friend. Please tell him that James and Buddha say hi and that we are thinking and praying for him.

Ken, We all miss Ryan. Some show it more than others, but EVERYONE misses him. From my nursing experience, The ones who knew Ryan closest probably show it the least because like you it is so painful.
So very glad you were able to get a long uninterrupted rest. Have a safe drive back today, the weather here in Baltimore is beautiful expect it’s the same for you.

I am so glad you did get some well deserved rest, and thank you for this post and for this bit of encouragement to us was able to get through.

I am also touched that you got a chance to reflect at the place where your family and Ryan’s life changed as you knew it. I am praying for you and your family continously. May God continue to bless you and everyone else who is helping you and may God continue to bless Ryan. Prayerfully, Vanessa

God bless you, Ken, for being such a wonderful and loving Father to your children — in spite of whatever life brings, this is what they will always know about you.

    Hi Ken,

Wishing you and Kari a safe trip back. I’m sorry to have missed Sue’s Crew yesterday. I wanted to be there, but we had to take a trip to Charlottesville to get Natalie’s remaining items out of her apartment. We were expecting a fairly clean place since it had been thoroughly cleaned/steam cleaned a few days ago. Not so. Guess some other remaining people decided to dirty up the place and left a mess. They even left some of their furniture. Needless to say, it was a busy day!

I hope that you get some good feedback from the IBRF session and that Ryan’s UTIs remain at bay. Also praying that the filter unit (the name escapes me) will not cause any problems until it is successfully removed.

Good vibes being sent to you, Sue, Kari, and Ryan. If I know Kari, she’ll make sure Ryan gets a taste of your holiday dinner!

    Love,
    carla

Ken,Glad you got Kari settled(mostly anyway) and got a little rest. Can only imagine your thoughts and hurts being at the place Ryan was attacked. Soon they will be replaced with new happy thoughts. Safe drive home and get the barbecue going…sure Ryan can smell all that good grilling Love gail
