We returned home a short while ago from Ryan’s appointment at the vascular doctor. I wish I had something significant to report, but the visit itself was largely unproductive. Still, it did let me know what our next steps will be. We need to get Ryan back in for imaging. The one we did before, although helpful, is not suited entirely to diagnose the depth of the issue.
It appears the type of filter Ryan has (Celect) is one that can be removed without too much risk, since it can collapse to be withdrawn. I just want to be damned sure this is the style before we would take him in for surgery. This can be further identified with the proper scan. The last reason for another scan is to precisely map the filter and determine if it is in a position that can be reached safely.
So, it’s another trip in the near future to radiology to get this accomplished.

Good news, guess it’s not so fun to get him out. Thinking about how you guys are holding up with all of the nursing chaos. Hugs to all!

Whew! Holding my breath as I waited for this post to appear! Thank God he didn’t send him to the ER at a heart hospital! Praying this is truly, as he told you, without too much risk. Miracle medical procedures and surgeries happen every second here and around the world. We have a 17 year old friend who just had a kidney transplant at Hopkins. He and his selfless and loving donor are recovering remarkably well. I believe that at death, organ donors will go straight through the Pearly Gates, no questions asked!
Always here with hope, faith, love and prayers.

Hi Ken,
Thanks very much for letting us know how Ryan’s visit went. I totally understand your reluctance about surgery. Can they determine what type of filter it is through imaging? I guess it’s going to be yet another one of those “cost/benefit” decisions. I hope surgery can be avoided altogether as I’m sure you and Sue do. Perhaps they’ll discover it’s not a problem — mercy I hope so.
I hope you and Ryan can get a little patio time today. Looks like the April showers will be back tomorrow.
Any news on the nursing front?
Love & prayers
Paula
