I’m grateful for the handful of unseasonably warm days we had last month. It allowed Ryan to spend some time on the patio soaking up the sun. He felt the breeze on his face and the sounds of the outdoors, like geese on the lake and traffic on the road. Once I took him outside with me as I grilled hamburgers, putting him downwind so he could smell it.
It was good for both of us to be outside.
I’m so looking forward to the time of year when the days are sunny and warm, without being too hot. It will give the opportunity for me to take him outside for some of his therapies. I see no reason he wouldn’t be able to use the ActivCycle and standing frame on the patio.
Then, come summer, I foresee being out with him just after sunrise. The perfect time since the pollen should be minimal and the heat from the sun is hours away. The time of day when the birds are chirping and the smell of freshly cut grass is intensified by the overnight dew. I might even treat myself to a coffee.
On summer nights we can just go out and relax. Since we have a lake behind us we hear a symphony of toads and crickets. I love the sound of them rising in pitch and falling off quickly. Hell, maybe I’ll even throw some hot dogs on the grill every now and then and put the ballgame on the radio.
We bought a high-velocity fan that I’ll turn on to keep the insects away (I also use it to dry the shower). This is one serious fan! It’s actually more of a propeller, spanning some thirty-two inches from tip-to-tip. On its highest setting I swear it would gain flight if there were wings on it.

Hi Ken,
I ran across a website I’d like to share with you. It is an online fundraising website for medical expenses, adoption, tuition assistance and more. If you have not already, I think you should put Ryan’s story on this site. Unfortunately I found out about the site because a friend just lost their 3 week old daughter and have incurred very high medical expenses. I’m amazed by the donations and donations made by anonymous people that did not even know the family. Keeps my beliefs going in people. The site is http://www.youcaring.com. Good luck!

Ahhh, that is good news. We had the opportunity to meet Kari two weeks ago when we were in Morgantown visiting our daughter. What a smart, beautiful, engaging young women she is. I’m sure you enjoyed your visit with her. I’m glad to hear you are looking forward to spring. Even though it has not been a tough winter here, warmer weather and all the things that comes with it are always welcome. Take care. Still here.

Hi Ken,
Every once in a while I read something that chases away every blue thought I had. That’s what your post did for me today. Thank you!!!
Hoping you and Ryan enjoy watching the snowflakes make a rare appearance this winter. Later in the week I’m sure you two will be back outside drinking in the early Spring beauty.
Sending you love and prayers for a good day!!
Paula

What a great idea to use a fan to get rid of insects! Have a great time with it!

It works perfectly. We actually have ceiling fans mounted on the front porch.

I love your vivid description of the sounds of Spring. This is our favorite season. We’re hearing those romantic little singers, too, and bluebirds are building in one of our boxes already. When it was raining a few days ago, the frogs were having glory days!
I like that fan! When it’s hot out, and we’re eating steamed crabs on Ryan’s patio, we’ll turn that big ole booger on and stay cool when it’s 99 in the shade! Now this is something nice to think about — crabs on the patio! Hmmm — isn’t this the name of a song? If not, we could write one. You write the first line, and I or Paula will write the second. I’ve already written a poem this morning, however short, and here it is:
Peace, Patrice.
I’m submitting it to several magazines, including Mad and Rolling Stone.
I listened to Dwight Yoakam for a long time last night during prayer time for Ryan. That is one singer who is a cut above! No wonder Ryan likes him — he is the best!
Always here with love and prayers (and some other stuff!). Working on shortening my essays… …

LOL Jo!! Between you and Ken, no wonder folks can’t stay away from this blog!! : )

Oh, no, Paula! It’s not me, it’s Ken! We can’t wait to read Ken Diviney every day. He cracks us up and I wouldn’t upstage him even if I could. His sense of humor is beyond anything we have ever read — no kidding — he’s a natural.
BTW, Ken, Stewart says there is already a song with this title, and proceeded to sing it. I told him it’s not that kind of party we’re talkin’ ’bout here! Geeze! I’m not sure he still wants to come to our party. Should we even invite him?

It sure helps to count all those small blessings while you’re waiting for God to come through with the big ones 🙂 I love all those pictures you painted of you and Ryan enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors (as great as it gets in Ashburn Village anyway), and the one Kari took of you being blown away! The warm weather is coming back this week, and I hope you guys can enjoy it as much as possible. Much love to all, and prayers always <3
