Ryan’s baclofen rate was reduced yesterday just after one o’clock. So far he is showing neither negative nor positive reaction. I’ll be able to tell more as I put him through his therapies today. We did run into one small glitch. The rate was only reduced to 96.1 mcg and not to 90 mcg where I wanted. It had everything to do with the concentration level of the medicine. Taking it below 96 mcg would slow the pump to a near standstill.
This will be resolved on the next visit. The pump will be drained and refilled with a more diluted ratio. That means the pump can run faster, but effectively deliver a lower amount of baclofen. At the same time, I’d like to take the level down again. I’m thinking at least to 80 mcg. This is already scheduled for February 28th, dependent on how Ryan tolerates this latest reduction.
So, just doing some quick math in my head, Ryan is four reductions away from testing the elimination of baclofen altogether. This makes me think — if all goes well — that he might be off the medicine just before summer. I’ll keep the pump implanted for another three to six month just to make sure. Who knows, by the end of the year he might be free of the pump entirely.
In other breaking news, Ryan and I will have the complete run of the house today through Friday. Parents, lock up your daughters! Or, sadly in my case, grandparents, lock up your daughters! Anyhow, Sue will be away on business travel and this will give us boys the opportunity to run amok. I won’t make any guarantees, but we’ll try to keep out of trouble. Well, at least we won’t go looking for trouble.
In actuality, Ryan and I got an early jump on the day and I’m sure I’ll be worn out by evening. So, running amok will probably consist of eating a frozen dinner and watching Swamp People. Yes, the nurse will object, but perhaps I’ll do this in my butt-naked. On second thought, I really like this nurse so I’ll behave.

Glad to read the schedule of Baclofen Reductions is continuing as planned.

My prayers always. Glad that all the reductions result in positive results.

Ken, I did not see that coming…hahahahahaha 🙂
I admire the health professional who deals with these little pumps because you have to know exactly what you’re doing — oh the pressure. Praying everything will continue to go smoothly til the goal is finally reached. I don’t understand everything I know about baclofen, but I’m taking it as a positive sign that Ryan may not need it at all.
Swamp people — see, they are fugly and think very highly of themselves becausee of their survival skills — kind of lends a whole new perspective to self esteem. Wonder if they’ve ever seen a skunk ape? Thank goodness for brain candy on TV, it really does take a person to a whole other world lol.
Prayers for a great day for you and Ryan!!!
Love, hugs, faith always

There you go — making us laugh! I still miss the silly jokes section, but love the cartoon!
Now, girls, don’t all of you go running over there at once — call and make an appointment! He might fit you in somewhere in his filling-up-fast date book. And, please, bring something good to eat –something you know he likes — Pan Fried Squirrel, Stewed Rabbit with Dumplings, Baked Sguab with Wild Rice Stuffing, or perhaps a nice Pot Roast of Deer(Lord knows, they’re plentiful); and perhaps a nice bottle of something imported. If Sue only knew… …Wives are always the last ones to know!!
Here’s to a good day, Ken, with no negative results from the Baclofen reduction! Always here with love and prayers.
P.S. Please, Gals, no chitlins — no matter how you cook ’em. I once heard Ken say that he really doesn’t care for chitlins. And don’t forget about dessert — your choice!

Can I offer to bring you a decent meal so you won’t have to eat frozen dinners?? I make a mean baked ziti and a nice ginger beef . . .

Hmmm… very tempting, indeed. It’s been quite some time since I had a home cooked meal.
Meg says
Just let me know Ken – you have my email address!
Jo says
Meg, if Ken doesn’t accept your offer, could you bring it across the river (and please include your recipe for ginger beef)? What’s for dessert?
