Ryan is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning. As always, we are on “hospital time”, and this is akin to the cable company. Meaning it might, or might not, happen in the morning.
Ryan will get a titanium rod inserted into the femur that will be anchored in place (forever) above and below the break. Although he will be sore, I’m told he will be out of his excruciating pain almost at once. I’m also told he will be able to resume “normal” (how I hate that word) activity when he gets home.
So, when will he get home? They want to keep him for two or three days. I believe they said he would be in traction, but I might be making that up. I do know he will spend the night in traction.
As with the past 26-3/4 months, Sue or I will be by his side.
Oh, and we’re still in the fuddruckin’ E.R…. 6 hours now!

Here and thinking about you all.

Every time I have been to the ER it has been hours and hours to get a room.

If orthopedic surgeons are in as short supply as they are over here, it may not even be tomorrow, God help you all! Shoot that morphine! Do not want Ryan to have to suffer this kind of pain! Praying here, wishing we were there in more than just spirit. Love and please hug one another, since we can’t.

Hoping Ryan is now settled in a room. Those long ER stays are just inexcusable and so frustrating. Praying for early morning surgery and for relief from the pain.

Praying, praying, praying, and then some. Always here. All our love to Ryan, you, Sue and Kari.

I’m so sorry you and Ryan have to endure yet another “thing”. I’m glad he will be comfortable soon. Hang in there. As always, still here and sending strong thoughts.

That is ridiculous! All this time in the ER,ask the ward clerk or nurse if their son would lay in the ER on a stretcher for 6hours would they be satisfied? What is the holdup unless they have no floor . Ask to talk to the evening hospital supervisor and make some noise! Keep the morphine on board and be alert for blood clots, pulmonary embolism, and pressure sores from traction equipment.
Praying for you all.
Anna says
I mean no floor beds.

Hi Ken,
Thank you so much for the update — it’s a big relief to know that the level of pain will go down quickly after surgery. I hope “traction” isn’t too painful.
Six hours and still in the ER? wow That’s a loooooonnnggg time. Is there not a room available for our boy??
It sounds like Ryan is in good medical hands, and that his stay there will be a short one. Surgery might happen in the morning, but then again, it could be done in the afternoon…? Praying the surgeon is able to treat Ryan early in the morning.
Thinking of you all…we are here for you. And we love you guys.
Prayers…faith…hope…and love, always
Paula
