We certainly have a busy and exciting week on tap. If all goes according to plan, it’s going to be a whirlwind of activity in and around our home. So, in no particular order, here’s what’s going down:
- UTI. Yesterday morning we discovered Ryan developed a urinary tract infection (UTI). He started on a broad-spectrum antibiotic immediately. I also collected a another urine sample to send out for culture. We should know more about the specific bacteria on Wednesday or Thursday and adjust the antibiotic (if necessary) at that time.
- 3-D Brain Model. If IBRF is true to their word, we should have this by Friday… after eight months of delay. This digital model of Ryan’s brain should give us more precise information on where to place electrodes on Ryan’s head for electrical impulse therapy.
- Van (Chick Magnet). It’s still in the shop. I’m not sure they even did anything yet… other than fail it for inspections.
- Concrete Project. After the plans being approved by the HOA last week, it seems the project will likely begin sometime this week. The project consists of three sub-projects: a) patio, b), walkway connecting the patio to the driveway, and c) a ramp off the side of the front porch.
- Kitchenette. This will begin on Tuesday with plumbing and electrical rough in. On Wednesday it should wrap-up with all cabinets, counter top, sink, and dishwasher (and hopefully a garbage disposer) installed.
- Toe Blisters. I’m still working to get these completely healed. It’s so frustrating! There’s one that’s particularly hard to heal. Hopefully Ryan will begin wearing shoes again and get back into the standing frame soon. It’s hard to believe this started a month ago.
- Civil Case. I wish I could give you details on this. It’s still in the discovery phase and no trial date is set (which is fine with me). I’m extremely pleased with how this is shaping up.
- Kari. My daughter has her last final exam on Wednesday morning and will be home that night. She’ll be on her semester break for over a month. I can’t wait! I really can’t.
- Butt Rash. I can confidently say we have this under control. It’s not gone, mind you, but manageable. This has been a pain in the ass… in more ways than one.
- Fundraiser. This all-day event for Ryan, called “Let Your Voice Be Heard”, will take place next Saturday (December 17th) at the HERNDON, Virginia Mediterranean Breeze. The evening will turn into a party atmosphere at the Sport’s Bar with karaoke and awards donated by Ashburn Crown Trophy. Click here to see the fun planned. Either Sue or I will be there. If I can make it then I’ll broadcast this live on the blog.

We are beginning week five of a bathroom remodel in the home we just moved into so that David and I can bathe Jonathan with less stress on our bodies getting him in and out. I absolutely do not know HOW you have handled all the renovations in your home because this one has made me want to curl up into a fetal position in the middle of a 40 acre field! We still have a day to go before the cleaning lady comes in to clean this place from top to bottom and someone comes to haul the trash off.
ANYWAY, I would love to see your diagram or what you might have to offer word wise in what you are doing for the ramp. We moved into a mobile home park so our space is limited, but our goal is to get a ramp up ASAP.
Have a great week. Praying and reading daily.

I worry that it’s going to be too crowded on Saturday night to get in! A friend of mine is actually planning to try the karaoke–and she’s not even going to be drinking! Looking forward to it.

Hi Ken, these projects will be so beneficial for Ryan!! The kitchenette will save time and energy by allowing you to prepare Ryan’s special nutrition needs on the lower level. Knowing that you and Sue will soon be able to get Ryan safely out from the lower level is a big relief too.
Of course Kari being at home will turn up the happiness meter big time! Praying for lots of extra strength and energy for Kari as she completes her exams, and for traveling mercies on her way home. Good luck on your tests, Kari, you will do great!
Hmm, what about that blister — what hasn’t been tried yet, I wonder. Praying the UTI will be completely resolved very soon. How frustrating that these continue to pop up — thank God you know your son so well and can so accurately read his behavior.
Last but not least — the Karaoke fundraiser at Med Breeze in Herndon — woooo it’s time to partay for our boy! It’s going to be awesome! And Ken, if you’re planning on showing up, please alert your fan base here ahead of time!! That would be awesome if you could live stream it for your readers.
Thank you for all of the updates and I’m praying for a day of healing and continued progress for Ryan.
With prayers & love always,
Paula
