We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

Nurseless Tonight

Lost in Time

Uggggggggggh! We, again, have no nurse tonight. No one was scheduled and no one wants to pick it up. I can’t say I blame them… it is a U.S. national holiday weekend, which I didn’t realize until about 5:00 AM this morning. I’m sure someone mentioned to me that this holiday was approaching, right? Maybe when I look at a calendar (rarely) I should mark my place in time. So often I find myself signing official documents as the year 2009.In fact, I just stopped-cold with my writing. I needed to really think if this is 2010 or 2011. Please don’t tell me it’s 2012! That would just ruin my day… and year, come to think of it. I’m sure there’s some medical condition I must have. A syndrome, I suspect. If not, I dub this “Trapped in Time Syndrome”. On second thought, might be best to call it “Stuck in Time Syndrome”.

I briefly considered making a logo for my newly named syndrome, but went the safe route with a well-known time machine. via murphymac.com

Before I get tossed into the doghouse, I want to honor those who died serving our country. This sacrifice is not lost on me and I am so grateful. Thank you!

Over here still burnin’ the midnight oil.

Hope Ryan’s having a good night… and that you’re doing well yourself… that is, if you’re not already face-down on your keyboard. If you are, sleep tight 😀

Ryan had a very good night. I don’t sleep when I’m with Ryan alone, but that’s not to say my head doesn’t hit the keyboard.

Maybe it’s just your way of staying on an even level with Ryan, for whom it is always November 2009. I remember when you posted about how you try to keep Ryan updated on the present, which is good.

Hello Ken, I could scarcely believe my eyes when I saw “No Nurse” again — I am struggling to believe that there aren’t any nurses at all available to stay with Ryan — I’m wondering if there is a “back up” agency you are permitted to use. This is important because the current agency doesn’t seem able to provide for your family’s needs. I think it’s unacceptable, and so unfair to you and to your family. Let me know if I can help somehow with this.

“Trapped in Time Syndrome” = TITS……..LOL, Ken!! Thank the Lord for your fantastic sense of humor!!! : D

I want to be like Marty McFly and get into a Back to the Future DeLorean…fantasies do have their place.

If there is anything your family needs this weekend that we can help with, just let us know. Not all of us have beach houses we can go dashing off to…no, that wasn’t bitter sounding.

Sending you, Ryan, Kari & Sue hugs and of course, prayers for peace, joy and healing.

Great catch on the syndrome acronym! Sue totally missed it until she read your comment. Needless to say, she was not happy with me.

Your “syndrome” is common among we 24/7 caregivers. One day it is the beginning of the year, and the next thing we know, six months have passed. Holidays? Really? I keep thinking of the Groundhog Day movie, not that I am a movie buff, but I know the gist of the movie. Other than appointments, or crisis, our routines do not change and holidays are not time off. BUT, that is OK because, we are doing what we need to do for our loved one. I do pray that someone will come along that would commit to stepping in when the nurse decides not to come or is not scheduled. There has to be someone in the community that would take this on, who is trained, or willing to be trained, or whatever is needed. That is my prayer. For people like us, who are already sleep deprived, we can’t make the sleep up.
Can we make this a prayer effort for that someone whom the Lord already has picked out… they just don’t know it yet!

And yes, I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free and, and won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me! (Lee Greenwood)

Ken, when you are having these “nurseless nights,” how about inviting some friends over for a wine and cheese or pretzel and beer party? !! Still here — Meddling now!! Love you and want to see you happy! Just a little wine, just a little beer — in case there is an emergency, but trust God, there won’t be! No more emergencies! I have a feeling that Ryan would love the party and the stimulation, and it would be so good for the rest of the family, too. Hope ~ Love ~ Prayers.

If you all lived close, and I could leave my 95-year-old dad alone at night (he’s in good health–he’s just a big scaredy-cat) I would go up to watch over Ryan…
