We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

Dr. Rodriguez: “Best I’ve Seen Him”.

February 17, 2011 by Ryan's Rally LLC 18 Comments

There are few people I respect as much as Dr. Rodriguez. Dr. Hinkle and Dr. Wiger are two. Dr. “Mindy” at Loudoun ICU certainly ranks up there. My father, another. Ryan, of course. All are brilliant men and superb individuals. Genuine, sincere, and compassionate.

Mike Rodriguez, MD

Dr. Rodriguez stopped by the house today to check in on Ryan. I just can not tell you how great it was to hear him say “Ryan looks the best I’ve seen him”. It means a lot! It really does.

He spent over an hour examining Ryan, calling other doctors, writing prescriptions, talking to radiologists, and socializing. By the time he left, we had a game plan in place for Ryan’s care.

Equally impressive is Dr. Hinkle. He called me first thing this morning to talk about Ryan’s eyes. We discussed many ways, some conceptual, to remedy his dryness. How can a person not admire a guy who is paying attention?

These are men of passion for the well-being of others. Their notability comes from their reputation. Well deserved, at that. Their authority comes from their knowledge. It is fortunate for their patients that they chose to enter their field.

Really, after a rough couple of days, it’s uplifting to see people who truly care. The doctors. The readers of this blog. The Prayer Warriors. The MOTNCer’s. WVU. Morgantown. Ashburn. Loudoun County. The list goes on…

…thought it might be nice to end the day on a good note!

It is so good to hear Ryan is doing well. He and all of your family have been in my thoughts. I have been following his progress since meeting you all and want you to know what a priviledge it was for me to care for him and be there with such a wonderful family. If there is anything I can do don’t hesitate to call on me. I will kep you in my prayers and hope to see you soon.

I totally agree with with my sister Diane concerning our Dad !!!!! However, not only did Kenny get his wondeful qualities of being genuine, sincere, compassionate and also loving from our Dad he also obtained these same qualities from our Mom. Kenny, Diane & I have been extremely fortunate to have been doubley blessed !!!!!

I know what you mean about only respecting a few men and dad being one of them.
He is a great father and would do anything for us, as you are doing for Ryan. If you ever wonder where you got your “better” qualities you have only to look to our dad.
Also, Mom, Beth and I are right up there and we won’t let anyone forget it either.
Always remember we are here for you and love you all so much.

Well we all know who can take credit for Ryan looking the way he does. Ken you are an amazing caregiver. I don’t want to leave Sue or Kari out of the equation. I’m sure without their support and help you would not be able to do all that you do everyday. I hope this day, with a taste of spring, is a peaceful one for all of you.

I’m still praying for Ryan. My little nephew, Matthew has to have his baclifin pump changed soon. It has to be changed every 5 years. Do you know the name or type of pump that was recalled. I would hate for that to happen to him also. I pray that Ryan will continue to improve. So glad to hear some good news about him. God Bless him. Ken, I understand completely when you say you don’t understand how this could happen to Ryan. I keep asking why for my nephew. It’s hard to understand why things this horrible happen to our loved ones. I guess I’ll never understand. Matthew was 10 when he got hurt. He’s now 17. I know the hurt and pain that you feel. It a very helpless feeling. Take care and I’ll continue to pray for Ryan and your whole family.

Let’s not forget YOU Ken, a devoted, loyal, steadfast Father to Ryan who also possesses all the good qualities of those Doctors plus more!! Ryan is very aware of the love and devotion you and your family provide him day in and day out … this I am quite sure. I admire your dedication and perserverance in loving and caring for your beloved Son, while at the same time I also empathize and feel the level of anxiety, sometimes despair that you feel vicariously. I really admire your courage to show love and loyalty despite the horrendous atrocity your entire family has endured. Thank You for your example of love at its finest towards your dear Son, Ryan. God bless Ryan and all of your family!!

Ken, thank you for posting this!! We have been so worried, and just praying constantly, asking the Lord for help. About an hour ago, I was watching the beautiful sunset and asked God if He would give some kind of positive sign for Ryan. I wasn’t planning on checking the blog again tonight, but I am so glad I did! Now I (and many others) can feel some peace tonight. Who knows, maybe we’ll even sleep. Dr. Rodriguez, God bless you for everything you are doing for Ryan. We know he is in the best of hands with you. Dr. Wiger — an exceptional and compassionate person, along with his lovely wife, thank you for *everything* you do. Dr. Jaju, a Harvard trained dentist, Dr. Hinkle, a highly trained doctor of optometry, thank you — these doctors are not only the best in their respective fields, they are the kind of people who give you hope. Ken and Sue, hugs for you and your wonderful, strong son and for your bright, beautiful daughter. I pray you have a smooth evening and a good night of rest. Love & prayers, Paula
