Ryan is completely off supplemental oxygen. He was taken off around noon yesterday. He has maintained superb oxygen saturation on his own, mostly pegged on 100% utilization. All labs came back well too. White blood count at 5.7K. All other results, including the metabolic panel, were well within normal range.
Around the same time he was removed from oxygen they increased his feed rate to 25 ml per hour. This is equivalent to 1 ⅔ tablespoons hourly. He tolerated this well so far and we expect his rate to be bumped up again later in the morning.
The stridor breathing I wrote about yesterday has significantly diminished. He has a faint bouts of it very rarely, mostly when he is straining or uncomfortable. The duration of episodes has likewise diminished.
From what I can tell, Ryan will be in ICU for at least another two days. We constantly analyze the trade-offs of remaining in the hospital against going home. When you boil it down, it’s really about weighing the risks in each environment. We have made the right calls on this before, but we never really know until after-the-fact. It’s a constant battle to keep our enthusiasm of returning home in check.

How is Ryan doing as of now, March 28th?
The Colangelis says
While away on a Christmas trip with my family, I woke early on Sunday to go to a small town church I hadn’t been to before. Very few people were there as it was an early 7 am mass and the length of it was very short. But the homily was special. The message the priest told was in the face of all obstacles, trust in God to help you make the “next” decision. The point is, God may not solve the large problem for us by giving us all decisons at one time — but you can rely on Him to lead you in making the right “next” decision.
Thanks for The Update! I am glad that everything is coming back normal. Shows God is still in control and will not fail. Still Here Praying for Ryan and The Family. Im like others Praying that you all will be home by new years! God Bless

Since I keep up on news around the world and crime, I just finished reading about Ryan. I don’t know Ryan, but want to say, I admire the father who is loyal and very supportive of taking care of his son. It is such a heart ache people are so dam cruel to do what they did to this young man, but Ryan appears to be a fighter and is determined to be his old self again which is my prayer. I’m so sorry this happened and has brought heart ache to his family. I want to leave with positive comment for Ryan, keep fighting to be your old self again, it will come. As for the Bastards that did this to you, mark my word, (and I’m not trying to bad mouth God) but their revengeful day from the Lord is awaiting them, (though they deserve life in prision), they will pay for what they have done. You wait and see and you will see, justice has been served from the Lord above. God is seeing Ryan through this and he will be ok in the end.
Way to go Ryan!

So happy to hear of Ryan’s continued progress, Ken! I’d say that now both of you are displaying “indomitable will.” ~~Team Divney – always here for you.
You always have his best in mind and have surrounded yourself with excellent medical advice. You will know when you feel he’s ready. <3 RKD
I’m so happy that Ryan is doing well. I’m sure that when the time comes to make the decision regarding going home that you will make the right choice. Although the circumstances surrounding Ryan’s admittance to ICU was undesirable, I am glad he was phenomenally taking care of and that the ‘fresh set of eyes’ that has watched him made sure he was fully checked out. Your uncompromising care of Ryan and his resilience is weathering yet one more storm. I look forward to seeing your post that says that you all are ‘home sweet home.’ God Bless You, Ken
That is GREAT news to hear that he is doing better! Thanks for the update!
