We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

New Therapy Added

November 21, 2012 by Ryan's Rally LLC 11 Comments

Within the past few days two products arrived that we are really excited about having for Ryan. The first is the Aquilla Wheelchair Cushion that I wrote about last month. The second is an abdominal muscle stimulator.

Wheelchair Cushion

I suppose most know by now that Ryan spends most of his day out-of-bed. He is in bed no more than anyone else. Much of this time he is up is  with him in his wheelchair doing all kinds of therapies. This was making it extremely difficult to keep his skin healthy on his bottom. We were constantly fighting rashes. I had to find a solution so began researching alternatives.

What I found and ordered is a multi air-bladder cushion that shifts his weight while sitting. I have it set to cycle through a sequence, with an adjustment happening every three minutes. It’s easy to use too! Just charge it overnight and hit the power button when I put him in the chair.

Aquilla air cushion (with cover off).

The cushion also provides airflow between the bladders that keeps him dry. It’s a wonderful addition to his care and comfort. We were happy to hear that our insurance paid for it.

Abdominal Stimulator

Just last night I added another therapy into Ryan’s routine that works his core muscles. This is from the same company, Restorative Therapies, that manufactures the RT-300 Therapy Cycle that uses electrical stimulation to work the muscles in Ryan’s arms and legs as he peddles.

Actually, it’s not just limited to the abs (if we want). What I like about it is it can be used either in conjunction with the leg and/or arm therapy or independently. You can see what I mean by clicking here. I’ll post a video showing how it works next week.

I’m thinking that for the first month or so I’ll just focus on his abdominal muscles. Perhaps about the time we ring in the new year I’ll begin experimenting with other configurations. Which reminds me…

Holiday Cards

We are sending out cards this holiday season. We started this last year, but quickly realized we didn’t have addresses for everyone; like those who donated through PayPal or the Wish List. You know what? Would you please fill out the form below… just to be safe?

I know how humble everyone is, but if you didn’t get a card last year or helped Ryan through online contributions, would you please email your address to me? It would mean a lot to me and my family to send you a card. I know it’s not much compared to all you did, but it’s something we really want to do. My daughter, Kari, designed it and we’re excited to do this.

Just click fill out the simple form below and click the sign-up button.

Wishing you all a peaceful and uneventful Thanksgiving. I remember I think it was two Thanksgivings ago when Kari gave Ryan a taste of the holiday meal to stimulate his tastes. I think of that sometimes and hope the smells of the holiday bring back good memories to Ryan. Its supposed to be nice weather! God bless the Diviney family and have a wonderful week with Kari home.

Ken, you hit the jackpot finding that cushion for Ryan — very awesome!! And insurance even paid for it — yes!! I am fascinated with the abdominal stimulator, and I’m looking forward to seeing your video about it next week.

Meantime, as always please know I have you and your family in my heart. I can’t wait to see the Christmas card Kari designed, she is so creative!! I’m sure it will be beautiful.

Wishing you a beautiful autumn day. We have so many things to be grateful for — not the least of which is the love, concern, care and support we all give to each other. I can’t imagine what our lives would be without it.

Love & prayers continuing — fresh hope blossiming new every morning with every glint of sunlight shining through the clouds

These seem like good additions for Ryan’s comfort and work-out. I will be here waiting for the video of the Abdominal Stimulator in action. I hope this blog is read by everyone who has a loved one with TBI or knows someone who does. There is much to learn here. This company has some amazing equipment for restoration — another company on our list to be thankful for.

Have a great day-before-Thanksgiving with your family. And, Ken, if you see a pie or something good sitting around — go for it! Let the festivities begin!

    Love and prayers.
