We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

Ryan Enjoys “Patio Time”

October 24, 2012 by Ryan's Rally LLC 10 Comments

Without a doubt, we love our patio and landscaping that was donated to our household. We get Ryan outside at every opportunity. Yesterday, like today is forecasted, was what us folk who grew up in Pennsylvania call an Indian Summer. It was perfect outside. Warm and sunny with no wind. Wonderful!ย

So, we had Ryan out not just once, but twice. The first was late-morning. I fired-up the grill and threw some turkey burgers (more on that later) on as Ryan took in the sounds and smells from outdoors. It is uncommon being late in the morning, but four deer strolled by. I shot a picture of them and returned to flipping burgers.

Some deer walk by the back of our property.

Even later in the day, after the sun had set, the temperature held in the upper-sixties. True to form, I fired-up the grill again (flounder filets)and brought Ryan out with me as Sue made the side dishes. We actually decided to eat on the patio table and keep Ryan snuggled-up near a heat lamp. We didn’t come in until nine o’clock.

Ryan enjoys the warmth from the patio heater. A “Christmas Gift” Sue and I bought for each other (i.e., Ryan) last Christmas. I guess it beats the VitaMix blender from the year before.

It was a great end to a day that Sue and I spent on the phone with lawyers, doctors, mechanics, and therapy product suppliers. As for Ryan, it led to a comfortable night of rest.

People who know me see me as a “meat and potatoes” sort of guy. To me, there’s little better than a burger or steak off the grill. But, over the past months, Sue has wanted to lose some weight and I’m being as supportive as possible. Instead of beef burgers, we eat turkey burgers. Steak is a rarity. Sue eats chicken and I eat fish instead. Anyhow, her diet is a huge success. In percentages, she is 20% less the woman she use to be. Less is more, baby! She could easily qualify as a “cougar”, if she wanted. ย I’m happy her hard work has paid off (for me, mostly).

These deer were moving in close just to be sure you weren’t grilling deer burgers! Are these Costco turkey burgers or from scratch? I have an easy recipe for gourmet Burgundy Burgers to make beef, bison, turkey, venison, etc. (How about a Burgundy Bunny Burger or squirrel!) Very easy and delicious. You CAN be a gourmet cook, and it’s easy. You sound as if you are on your way from what I read.

The patio is by far one of the best things that has ever happend for Ryan as well as the rest of the family. So thankful for sunny patio!

Thinking of you and praying also. Lots of worries over here right now, but I’ll get back to my old self soon and keep up with my notes here and to Ryan. It seems like the whole world is in chaos sometimes. So many are really having hard times. I know, Ken, I have many pages out of your book! Love to all and please pray the impending storm out to sea.

You know what else are good? Turkey Meatballs. My mom and daughter Lizzie both love them. Glad you are able to enjoy the evenings together outside. Fresh air is always the best medicine.

Hi Ken, I loved your post today — thanks for the smiles and for sharing your days with us. I loved the pictures too. You and Sue are a gorgeous couple and you have gorgeous children ๐Ÿ™‚ But the beauty is not skin deep, because there is all the kindness, intelligence and caring that goes with it.

Lifting up prayers and gratitude for these moments, or as the song says, “these small hours, these little wonders” that make life worthwhile.
    Love & hugs,
    Paula

Too cold of late in upstate NY for the patio. So I retreat to the patio of my mind for some heavenly refreshment.

Glad to hear Ryan got to enjoy that great weather and that beautiful patio. It is wonderful that he was outside 2x yesterday and it is wonderful that he has You and Sue. Tell Sue Congrats on the job well done. I wish I had motivation to do the same. Hope Ryan gets out again today and so glad to hear that he had a peaceful night.

I love Indian Summer! (I lived just outside Philly for 5 years and had family that lived in Indiana, PA and Beaver Falls, PA (which we visited often). Happy to hear the whole family is enjoying the weather and I need to know Sue’s weight loss secrets! (grin) ๐Ÿ™‚
