The voters spoke and it’s official. I consider it a mandate. The license plate going on the Chick Magnet (a.k.a. van) is RLY4R.
Over 61% of the people chose it among their top three picks. A total of 289 people voted (casting well over 700 votes). I sincerely hope you had fun with this. I know I sure did.
It was really exciting to see how much interest it generated. From my end, I know I never would have thought up most of the wonderful suggestions.
The next step in getting the Magnet road-worthy is to run all the paperwork through DMV. From there, I’ll take it to a mechanic and give it the once-over and get all inspections. Then, off to the body shop to have the surface rust removed. After this, it gets fun (if it’s not costly). I plan on getting it painted (thinking WVU blue and gold accent) with artwork.
As the process above is going on, I’ll equip the interior with all the necessary medical equipment and supplies that one would find in an ambulance. You know, oxygen, suction, vitals monitor, bandages, urinary/bowel supplies, oral care supplies, and so on. I wonder if the police would mind if I installed a siren and flashing lights? Hmmm…
My thinking on the obvious overkill of interior functionality is twofold: 1) It would give peace of mind when transporting Ryan to medical appointments, and 2) It would allow us to take day trips or outings knowing everything he needs during a routine day is right with us. I see no reason it couldn’t even include a feeding pump.
Oh, I’ll make sure there is enough room for the chicks that are helplessly drawn to it.

Ken, these are great suggestions! I know that we have donated scholarship funds from my brother’s memorial golf tournament to Chantilly Academy for students learning different trades. (A cause near and dear to his heart). They have an automotive program and I’m sure they would be willing to help as well. 🙂

Good Morning, You may want to check with a vocational school, affiliated with a High School. If you are fortunate to have one near you and they offer mechanical or auto body they generally will charge very little if anything. Special projects allow their students to get first hand experience and knowledge for the real world, it’s also a great way for them to publicize their program and generate interest within the community.
Love the license plate, Great choice!

That is a great suggestion!! It might actually help get Ryan’s story out there to a younger crowd who may or may not be aware. It might even help them understand that actions have consequences. (So they don’t become thugs like the ones that Ryan encountered that night.)

Ken, you might get some help in equiping the van here: http://www.ashburnfirerescue.org/ Sometimes they get new equipment and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the old, and it might be possible that they could donate it to Ryan. I think it’s worth a try.
Good choice on the plate! This is where most of us began–Rally for Ryan or Ryan’sRally.org. Love and prayers always.

This is to say, nothing wrong with the old, just that the new is updated and qualifies for EMS.
