By now, you all know how conceded I am. Not about my appearance but about my resourcefulness and innovation. Screw lemonade… give me a lemon and I’ll make a lemon meringue pie. Sure, I might need to use a truck load of lemons first, but eventually I’ll figure it out.
Okay, enough about me, for now anyhow.
I shot this video of Ryan this morning. I’ve been on a mission to come up with a possible way to simulate walking for him, albeit passively. My first inclination was somehow incorporating a treadmill. For some reason I couldn’t switch my mind away from it. That is, until the Wish List was created and provided Ryan with the resources. I started engineering, in my mind, how I might make this work while making it easy to incorporate. Functional simplicity is always paramount to me. I’m not Rube Goldberg… but I could be.
So, with the ActivCycle, a couple of straps, and ankle cuffs my problem was solved. By securing the ActivCycle to his standing frame (by another strap) it allows me to exercise him through the full range by simply changing the height of the table.
Genius!
In it’s simplest form.
So, here’s the video of it all put together.

Ken needs to write a manual that covers all the knowledge he has acquired and implemented to help Ryan recover. Heck, for that matter, he should write a medical text to show the doctors and nurses how to utilize “best practices” to help someone with a TBI to heal.
KERI DEZELL says
Ken there will be a day when your RYAN comes back to you in full form all due to your diligence and “where there’s a will there’s a way mentality”. I believe that when that happens medical teams and other families in the same unfortunate circumstance will be looking to you to guide them through. I truly believe that you are “breaking all barriers” and so many people, including your precious son, will benefit from your work. Ryan could not be in better hands.
May GOD continue to bless you all.
You love, your devotion, your ingenuity will pay off. I believe that to my core. GO RYAN GO! GO KEN GO!
In love and in prayer,
Keri, My Frankie and Family

Magnificent! To see how your willingness to create the “wishlist” has allowed others to participate in Ryan’s recovery and then their generosity allowed you to invent a solution to therapy. You may very well be on the verge of also leading other families in therapy solutions as well.
Ken- you are amazing.

Ken Your an Amazing Person For All You Do For Your Son and to keep everyone updated day after day. And if you ever miss a day not posted it makes us all alittle worried. Im so glad we can get on here and keep up with Ryan. May God Bless Your Whole Family. (From Morgantown) PS Glad that the Machine helps Ryan

Ken,
When items go off the wishlist, does that mean you received them. I was waiting to place another order for you and it’s no longer on the list, however, it’s not on the items you received either.
ryansrally.org says
It means it has been purchased. If not on my list of received items then it is in transport.

Keep the wishes coming, Ken!!! Thank you!!!

This I will address to Ryan:
Kiddo, No one should ever have been assaulted the way you were. There is no excuse! But through such a horrible situation comes a light of amazement from God, brilliance from dad and motherly love like no other from your beloved mom.
From the birth of a child to the sheer love and caring from both parents and Kari, there is no more absolute proof of our heavenly father. The support network of prayor warriors, family, friends, and people you have touched, even those you may never meet show all of us the good far out weighs the evil in this world.
If you and mom and dad would grant me the honor of holding your hand and praying with you the next time I visit, I would be thrilled. Much love, sweetie!

Incredible! Ken, you never cease to amaze me. Where there is a will, there is a way. If there is such a thing as reincarnation, you must have been a doctor, nurse, engineer, scientist, AND a loving & devoted father & husband. How lucky for Ryan, Kari & Sue!!! Have a great day!!
Jo Hobbs says
If I had a lemon, I’d probably make something frozen that would make me a little dizzy! You have the mind of a
genius–always observing, processing, then inventing. Still here.
Ms. Blasé says
Ryan benefits tremendously from having a “mad scientist” in the house 🙂
Once again, Ken, you’ve proven that necessity breeds innovation.
Gail Doyle says
