We Got This!

"I tell him I tried. I tried to keep memory alive; I tried to fight those who would forget. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. There is so much injustice & suffering crying out for our attention. We must take sides. We must interfere. -E.W.

The Eyes have it.

February 2, 2011 by Ryan's Rally LLC 7 Comments

What can I say? Our family is surrounded by a caring and generous local medical team of doctors and nurses. Just like our physician, Dr. Rodriguez, and our orthodontist, Dr. Wiger, we also have an outstanding optometrist (eye doctor) caring for Ryan. Thank you Dr. Hinkle!

Dr. Hinkle, Optometrist Vision Source-Oakton.com

Dr. Hinkle, who has offices in both Ashburn and Oakton, Virginia stopped by our house today to look in on Ryan. A while back I posted about a condition Ryan has with his eyes. You can view that post by clicking here, but the short version of this post is Ryan has scarring on the cornea of both eyes. It, we believe, is caused by Ryan having incomplete blinks even though enough tear fluid gets to the eyes.

Dr. Hinkle did notice improvement in the right eye. However, the left eye was just minimally better. I had to admire him as he worked in a darkened laundry room to get the best reading from a slit lamp. Never mind this is where we keep the cat’s litter box.

So, the plan of care is to continue applying eye ointment eight times a day. Ryan will need to continue wearing goggles to help retain the moisture. In the meantime, Dr. Hinkle will call around for possible treatments. This might include stitching the eye closed for a while to allow it to heal.

Thank you Dr. Hinkle, Dr. Wiger, Dr. Rodriguez, and all who have so kindly helped Ryan and his family. You all are amazing and selfless and just plain extraordinary!!!!

And Ken…. glad you didn’t decide to talk about having a poo-poo platter (or is it pu pu platter?) or anything when describing the room with the kitty litter!!! Then again, I’ve come to expect a smile (or six) every day from you. 🙂

    Love,
    carla

You know, it’s people like Dr. Wiger, Dr. Rodriguez, and Dr. Hinkle who restore my faith in mankind, and help me to see how God works on this earth through people. To these fine doctors and all those who have been helping the Diviney family, thank you. The world is a much better place because of you.

One day at a time please Jesus… …I hope Ryan’s eye doesn’t require this surgery. It sounds like a wait and see approach. Prayers, still here.
