I’m just not convinced the antibiotic for Ryan’s latest urinary tract infection is doing the job. Either that or he has developed another one of a different strain that isn’t sensitive to what he’s on now. His urine still has a slightly foul odor and there’s no mistaking the leukocytes and nitrites lighting up the dip stick. So, this morning another urine sample is going out for culture. The hope is we’ll hear something back on it Monday. Tuesday, at the latest.
Like the UTI bacteria before, this is a particularly nasty one, albeit an entirely different strain. My fear is Ryan will need intravenous antibiotics to resolve it. This is huge… in a bad way. It means we are now into some downright powerful medication. This also means he is at the threshold of resistance. Next week we’ll circle back again with the urologist and (potentially) draw in an infectious disease specialist.
How does this keep happening with a different bacterial infection each time?
I am doing everything I can research to prevent it from happening. I read every piece of literature sent to me. I’m to the point where I’m almost willing to draw a chalk circle around him and chant incantations. With all the physical victories Ryan achieved, it’s a UTI that could bring him down. A son-of-a-bitchin’ microscopic germ. It’s just not fair. What else can I say?
Here’s the thing though. I must keep searching or (Ryan will) die trying.
