      Some of you may remember my college roommate Ken Diviney and his wife Sue from our Clarion University days. This story is about their 22-year old son Ryan Diviney, who was savagely beaten and was left for dead in a convenience store parking lot in Morgantown, WV on November 7, 2009. He is currently in an eyes-open coma with serious brain damage. The past two-and-a-half have been a living hell for Ken and his family. I visited with them at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown just 6 days after the attack. Knowing my friend Ken as an intelligent, quick-witted prankster, it tremendously pains me to watch him go through this life altering experience.

      The Diviney’s medical insurance doesn’t even come close to covering their medical expenses for Ryan’s treatments. Their medical debt is mounting. Their insurance does not cover all of Ryan’s steep medical expenses, nor does it cover some of the more advanced medical treatments to help Ryan heal.

      RIDE FOR RYAN –  Joe Maletta, Scot Reed, George Gardner, Doug Roberts and I are planning to use our 460-mile rail trail bike trip from Pittsburgh, through NY state, Southern Ontario the week of July 22 – 27 as a fund raiser for Ryan Diviney. We are asking for you to consider donating money to our Ride For Ryan fundraiser. You can either pledge to donate a fixed amount (example: $20) or you may choose to donate per mile (example: 5 cents per mile x 460 miles = $23). No amount is too small. 100% of your donation will be given to Ryan’s family to assist with his medical bills.

      2. By PayPal. Please put “Ride for Ryan” in the memo/note field.
